Population of Riga in 2025 was 591 882. Riga is the capital and largest city in Latvia. It is also the primate city of Latvia, since its second largest city Daugavpils is around 8 times smaller. Around 1990, population of Riga was over 900 000, however, it has decreased more than 30 percent due to negative birth and migration rates. For a long time it was the largest city in the Baltic countries, before being overtaken by Vilnius in 2024/2025.
