Federal subjects of Russia include oblasts, krais, republics, federal cities, autonomous oblasts and autonomous okrugs. Currently, there are 83 federal subjects. The largest one, Sakha Republic (Yakutia), is the largest country subdivision in the world, covering more than 3 million square kilometers. If independent, Sakha would be world’s eighth largest country by area. Russia itself is by far the largest country in the entire world, with over 17 million square kilometers.
